لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْعَظِيمُ الْحَلِيمُ، لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ، لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَرَبُّ الْأَرْضِ وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ
Lā ilāha illā llāhu l-ʿaẓīmu l-ḥalīm, lā ilāha illā llāhu rabbu l-ʿarshi l-ʿaẓīm…
There is no god but Allah, the Magnificent, the Forbearing. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the Mighty Throne. There is no god but Allah, Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth and Lord of the Noble Throne. (The supplication of distress.)
al-Bukhārī 6346, Muslim 2730لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ
Lā ilāha illā anta subḥānaka innī kuntu mina ẓ-ẓālimīn
There is no god but You. Glory be to You! I was indeed among the wrongdoers. (The supplication of Yūnus ﷺ — no Muslim calls with it but he is answered.)
at-Tirmidhī 3505 (Qur'an 21:87)اللَّهُمَّ رَحْمَتَكَ أَرْجُو فَلَا تَكِلْنِي إِلَىٰ نَفْسِي طَرْفَةَ عَيْنٍ، وَأَصْلِحْ لِي شَأْنِي كُلَّهُ، لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
Allāhumma raḥmataka arjū fa-lā takilnī ilā nafsī ṭarfata ʿayn, wa aṣliḥ lī shaʾnī kullah, lā ilāha illā ant
O Allah, it is Your mercy that I hope for; do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye, and set right all my affairs. There is no god but You.
Abū Dāwūd 5090اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي عَبْدُكَ، ابْنُ عَبْدِكَ، ابْنُ أَمَتِكَ، نَاصِيَتِي بِيَدِكَ … أَسْأَلُكَ بِكُلِّ اسْمٍ هُوَ لَكَ … أَنْ تَجْعَلَ الْقُرْآنَ رَبِيعَ قَلْبِي، وَنُورَ صَدْرِي، وَجَلَاءَ حُزْنِي، وَذَهَابَ هَمِّي
Allāhumma innī ʿabduk, ibnu ʿabdik, ibnu amatik… an tajʿala l-qurʾāna rabīʿa qalbī, wa nūra ṣadrī, wa jalāʾa ḥuznī, wa dhahāba hammī
O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant; my forelock is in Your hand … I ask You by every name that is Yours to make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, the light of my breast, the clearing of my sorrow and the departure of my worry.
Aḥmad 3712اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ، وَالْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَالْبُخْلِ وَالْجُبْنِ، وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ
Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika mina l-hammi wa-l-ḥazan, wa-l-ʿajzi wa-l-kasal, wa-l-bukhli wa-l-jubn, wa ḍalaʿi d-dayni wa ghalabati r-rijāl
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, from incapacity and laziness, from miserliness and cowardice, from the burden of debt and from being overpowered by others.
al-Bukhārī 6369حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
Ḥasbunā llāhu wa niʿma l-wakīl
Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs. (The word of Ibrāhīm ﷺ in the fire, and of the believers when they were threatened.)
al-Bukhārī 4563 (Qur'an 3:173)اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
Allāhumma-kfinī bi-ḥalālika ʿan ḥarāmik, wa aghninī bi-faḍlika ʿamman siwāk
O Allah, suffice me with what You have made lawful so that I need nothing forbidden, and enrich me by Your bounty so that I need none besides You. (Said when in debt.)
at-Tirmidhī 3563اللَّهُمَّ لَا سَهْلَ إِلَّا مَا جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلًا، وَأَنْتَ تَجْعَلُ الْحَزْنَ إِذَا شِئْتَ سَهْلًا
Allāhumma lā sahla illā mā jaʿaltahu sahlā, wa anta tajʿalu l-ḥazna idhā shiʾta sahlā
O Allah, nothing is easy except what You make easy; and You make the difficult easy when You will.
Ibn Ḥibbān 974لَا بَأْسَ، طَهُورٌ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ
Lā baʾsa, ṭahūrun in shāʾa llāh
No harm — may it be a purification, if Allah wills. (Said when visiting the sick.)
al-Bukhārī 3616أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ رَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ أَنْ يَشْفِيَكَ
Asʾalu llāha l-ʿaẓīma rabba l-ʿarshi l-ʿaẓīmi an yashfiyak
I ask Allah the Magnificent, Lord of the Mighty Throne, to cure you. (Seven times at the sick person's side; if his time has not come, Allah cures him of it.)
Repeat 7×at-Tirmidhī 2083, Abū Dāwūd 3106بِسْمِ اللَّهِ (٣) — أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ (٧)
Bismillāh (×3) — Aʿūdhu billāhi wa qudratihi min sharri mā ajidu wa uḥādhir (×7)
Place your hand on the place of pain and say three times: In the name of Allah. Then seven times: I seek refuge in Allah and in His power from the evil that I feel and fear.
Repeat 7×Muslim 2202إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ. اللَّهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي وَأَخْلِفْ لِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا
Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn. Allāhumma ʾjurnī fī muṣībatī wa akhlif lī khayran minhā
Indeed we belong to Allah, and to Him we return. O Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it for me with something better.
Muslim 918اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ، وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيمِ، فَإِنَّكَ تَقْدِرُ وَلَا أَقْدِرُ، وَتَعْلَمُ وَلَا أَعْلَمُ، وَأَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الْغُيُوبِ. اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ هَٰذَا الْأَمْرَ خَيْرٌ لِي فِي دِينِي وَمَعَاشِي وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِي فَاقْدُرْهُ لِي وَيَسِّرْهُ لِي ثُمَّ بَارِكْ لِي فِيهِ، وَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ شَرٌّ لِي … فَاصْرِفْهُ عَنِّي وَاصْرِفْنِي عَنْهُ، وَاقْدُرْ لِيَ الْخَيْرَ حَيْثُ كَانَ ثُمَّ أَرْضِنِي بِهِ
Allāhumma innī astakhīruka bi-ʿilmik, wa astaqdiruka bi-qudratik, wa asʾaluka min faḍlika l-ʿaẓīm… (duʿāʾ al-istikhāra)
O Allah, I seek Your guidance by Your knowledge and Your strength by Your power, and I ask You of Your immense bounty; for You are able and I am not, You know and I do not, and You are the Knower of all that is hidden. O Allah, if You know this matter to be good for me in my religion, my livelihood and the outcome of my affairs, then decree it for me, make it easy for me and bless it for me. And if You know it to be bad for me, then turn it away from me and turn me away from it, and decree for me what is good wherever it may be, and make me content with it. (Prayed after two voluntary rakʿahs, naming one's need where “this matter” is said.)
al-Bukhārī 1166اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَجْعَلُكَ فِي نُحُورِهِمْ، وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شُرُورِهِمْ
Allāhumma innā najʿaluka fī nuḥūrihim, wa naʿūdhu bika min shurūrihim
O Allah, we place You before them and seek refuge in You from their evil. (Said when fearing hostility or threat.)
Abū Dāwūd 1537
