اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ، لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ، لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ، مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِنْدَهُ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ، يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ، وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلَّا بِمَا شَاءَ، وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ، وَلَا يَئُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا، وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ
Allāhu lā ilāha illā huwa l-ḥayyu l-qayyūm, lā taʾkhudhuhu sinatun wa lā nawm…
Allah — there is no god but Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth … His Kursī extends over the heavens and the earth, and preserving them does not tire Him. He is the Most High, the Magnificent.
Qur'an 2:255 (Āyat al-Kursī)﴿قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ …﴾ ﴿قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ …﴾ ﴿قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ …﴾
Qul huwa llāhu aḥad · Qul aʿūdhu bi-rabbi l-falaq · Qul aʿūdhu bi-rabbi n-nās (×3)
The three protective sūrahs (al-Ikhlāṣ, al-Falaq, an-Nās), three times each. Whoever says them morning and evening, they will suffice him in everything.
Repeat 3×Abū Dāwūd 5082, at-Tirmidhī 3575 (Qur'an 112–114)أَمْسَيْنَا وَأَمْسَى الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ. رَبِّ أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ مَا فِي هَٰذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ وَخَيْرَ مَا بَعْدَهَا، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا فِي هَٰذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ وَشَرِّ مَا بَعْدَهَا. رَبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْكَسَلِ وَسُوءِ الْكِبَرِ، رَبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابٍ فِي النَّارِ وَعَذَابٍ فِي الْقَبْرِ
Amsaynā wa amsā l-mulku lillāh, wa-l-ḥamdu lillāh… Rabbi asʾaluka khayra mā fī hādhihi l-layla…
We have entered the evening, and the dominion belongs to Allah; all praise is due to Allah. There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner; His is the dominion and the praise, and He has power over all things. My Lord, I ask You for the good of this night and the good that follows it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this night and the evil that follows it. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from laziness and the misery of old age; my Lord, I seek refuge in You from punishment in the Fire and punishment in the grave.
Muslim 2723اللَّهُمَّ بِكَ أَمْسَيْنَا وَبِكَ أَصْبَحْنَا وَبِكَ نَحْيَا وَبِكَ نَمُوتُ وَإِلَيْكَ الْمَصِيرُ
Allāhumma bika amsaynā wa bika aṣbaḥnā wa bika naḥyā wa bika namūtu wa ilayka l-maṣīr
O Allah, by You we enter the evening and by You the morning; by You we live and by You we die, and to You is the final return.
at-Tirmidhī 3391اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ، وَأَنَا عَلَىٰ عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ، وَأَبُوءُ بِذَنْبِي، فَاغْفِرْ لِي فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
Allāhumma anta rabbī lā ilāha illā ant, khalaqtanī wa anā ʿabduk… (Sayyidu l-istighfār)
O Allah, You are my Lord; there is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I keep Your covenant and promise as best I can. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favour upon me and I acknowledge my sin — so forgive me, for none forgives sins but You. (The master supplication for forgiveness)
al-Bukhārī 6306اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَمْسَيْتُ أُشْهِدُكَ، وَأُشْهِدُ حَمَلَةَ عَرْشِكَ، وَمَلَائِكَتَكَ، وَجَمِيعَ خَلْقِكَ، أَنَّكَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ
Allāhumma innī amsaytu ushhiduka wa ushhidu ḥamalata ʿarshik, wa malāʾikatak, wa jamīʿa khalqik…
O Allah, I have entered the evening calling You to witness, and the bearers of Your Throne, Your angels and all Your creation, that You are Allah — there is no god but You alone, with no partner — and that Muhammad is Your servant and Messenger. (Four times.)
Repeat 4×Abū Dāwūd 5069اللَّهُمَّ مَا أَمْسَىٰ بِي مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ أَوْ بِأَحَدٍ مِنْ خَلْقِكَ فَمِنْكَ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ، فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَلَكَ الشُّكْرُ
Allāhumma mā amsā bī min niʿmatin aw bi-aḥadin min khalqik fa-minka waḥdaka lā sharīka lak, fa-laka l-ḥamdu wa laka sh-shukr
O Allah, whatever blessing has come to me or to any of Your creation this evening is from You alone, with no partner; to You belongs all praise and all thanks.
Abū Dāwūd 5073اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي بَدَنِي، اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي سَمْعِي، اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي بَصَرِي، لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ. اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ وَالْفَقْرِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
Allāhumma ʿāfinī fī badanī, Allāhumma ʿāfinī fī samʿī, Allāhumma ʿāfinī fī baṣarī, lā ilāha illā ant…
O Allah, grant my body health, O Allah, grant my hearing health, O Allah, grant my sight health; there is no god but You. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief and poverty, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave; there is no god but You.
Repeat 3×Abū Dāwūd 5090, Aḥmad 20430حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ، عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ، وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ
Ḥasbiya llāhu lā ilāha illā huwa, ʿalayhi tawakkaltu, wa huwa rabbu l-ʿarshi l-ʿaẓīm
Allah is sufficient for me; there is no god but Him. In Him I trust, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne.
Repeat 7×Abū Dāwūd 5081اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَفْوَ وَالْعَافِيَةَ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَفْوَ وَالْعَافِيَةَ فِي دِينِي وَدُنْيَايَ وَأَهْلِي وَمَالِي، اللَّهُمَّ اسْتُرْ عَوْرَاتِي وَآمِنْ رَوْعَاتِي، اللَّهُمَّ احْفَظْنِي مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيَّ وَمِنْ خَلْفِي وَعَنْ يَمِينِي وَعَنْ شِمَالِي وَمِنْ فَوْقِي، وَأَعُوذُ بِعَظَمَتِكَ أَنْ أُغْتَالَ مِنْ تَحْتِي
Allāhumma innī asʾaluka l-ʿafwa wa-l-ʿāfiyata fī d-dunyā wa-l-ākhirah…
O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in this world and the next. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, my worldly affairs, my family and my wealth. O Allah, conceal my faults and calm my fears. O Allah, guard me from before me and behind me, from my right and my left and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your greatness from being swallowed up from beneath me.
Abū Dāwūd 5074, Ibn Mājah 3871اللَّهُمَّ عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ، فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ، رَبَّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَمَلِيكَهُ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِي، وَمِنْ شَرِّ الشَّيْطَانِ وَشِرْكِهِ، وَأَنْ أَقْتَرِفَ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِي سُوءًا أَوْ أَجُرَّهُ إِلَىٰ مُسْلِمٍ
Allāhumma ʿālima l-ghaybi wa-sh-shahādah, fāṭira s-samāwāti wa-l-arḍ…
O Allah, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord and Sovereign of all things: I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own soul, from the evil of Satan and his associating others with You, and from bringing evil upon myself or upon any Muslim.
at-Tirmidhī 3392, Abū Dāwūd 5067بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
Bismillāhi lladhī lā yaḍurru maʿa smihi shayʾun fī l-arḍi wa lā fī s-samāʾ, wa huwa s-samīʿu l-ʿalīm
In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in heaven can cause harm; and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
Repeat 3×Abū Dāwūd 5088, at-Tirmidhī 3388رَضِيتُ بِاللَّهِ رَبًّا، وَبِالْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا، وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ نَبِيًّا
Raḍītu billāhi rabban, wa bi-l-islāmi dīnan, wa bi-Muḥammadin ﷺ nabiyyā
I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad ﷺ as my Prophet.
Repeat 3×Abū Dāwūd 5072, at-Tirmidhī 3389يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ، أَصْلِحْ لِي شَأْنِي كُلَّهُ وَلَا تَكِلْنِي إِلَىٰ نَفْسِي طَرْفَةَ عَيْنٍ
Yā ḥayyu yā qayyūm bi-raḥmatika astaghīth, aṣliḥ lī shaʾnī kullahu wa lā takilnī ilā nafsī ṭarfata ʿayn
O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, by Your mercy I seek help: set right all my affairs and do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye.
al-Ḥākim 1/545 (ṣaḥīḥ)أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
Aʿūdhu bi-kalimāti llāhi t-tāmmāti min sharri mā khalaq
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.
Repeat 3×Muslim 2708أَمْسَيْنَا عَلَىٰ فِطْرَةِ الْإِسْلَامِ، وَعَلَىٰ كَلِمَةِ الْإِخْلَاصِ، وَعَلَىٰ دِينِ نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ، وَعَلَىٰ مِلَّةِ أَبِينَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَنِيفًا مُسْلِمًا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ
Amsaynā ʿalā fiṭrati l-islām, wa ʿalā kalimati l-ikhlāṣ, wa ʿalā dīni nabiyyinā Muḥammadin ﷺ…
We have entered the evening upon the natural religion of Islam, upon the word of sincerity, upon the religion of our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and upon the way of our father Ibrāhīm, who was upright and submitted to Allah and was not of the idolaters.
Aḥmad 15563لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
Lā ilāha illā llāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahu l-mulku wa lahu l-ḥamdu wa huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr
There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner; His is the dominion and His the praise, and He has power over all things. (A hundred times a day — or ten times morning and evening.)
Repeat 100×al-Bukhārī 3293, Muslim 2691; an-Nasāʾī, ʿAmal al-yawm 24سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ
Subḥān Allāhi wa bi-ḥamdih (×100)
Glory and praise be to Allah (100×). Whoever says this in the morning and evening will have their sins forgiven even if they were like the foam of the sea.
Repeat 100×Muslim 2692أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ
Astaghfirullāha wa atūbu ilayh (×100)
I seek Allah's forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance (100×) — the Prophet ﷺ did so a hundred times a day.
Repeat 100×al-Bukhārī 6307, Muslim 2702اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَىٰ نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ
Allāhumma ṣalli wa sallim ʿalā nabiyyinā Muḥammad (×10)
O Allah, send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Whoever sends blessings upon him once, Allah sends blessings upon him ten times.
